It’s been three years since my last blog. The last one was here http://www.paulpmeehan.ie/2017/07/05/vcdx250-its-a-pass/ when I got the good news about VCDX back in 2017.
Why the lack of posts ?
In 2016 I switched role when my previous boss retired. I was asked to lead a team of EMEA Subject Matter Experts across Hitachi solution and product areas. Two years later I switched to manage a new team of Core and Cloud experts mainly focused on Automation, Private Cloud (Mode 1 and Mode 2), working in close proximity to Hitachi Enterprise Cloud (HEC) for VMware (vRA), and Hitachi Enterprise Cloud for Containers (HEC-CP). It’s always been my goal to manage a team of specialists like this, and I really enjoyed the last three or four years. However, it did limit the amount of time I spent with customers compared to before.
Since November I am excited to move back into a Pre-sales role in the Hitachi Vantara Services organisation as a Solution Domain Principal. I work in a small EMEA team of very experienced Business and Technical thought leaders.
I focus on automation and support complex design and integration solutions across cloud and VMware technologies. Last year I put together a design programme for a customer building a data centre from scratch, with a plan to build from 0 to 240,000 physical nodes. This is when #VCDX skills come to the fore – no challenge is insurmountable once you can apply rigour and a structured methodology. More on that use case later, and also how achieving #VCDX has helped me and changed my perspective in my daily job.
Taking a new leadership role opened up a lot of other areas. In my personal life I decided to start coaching both Football (Soccer) and Gaelic Football. Gaelic Football is THE dominant indigenous sport in most communities in Ireland and my first love. Every parish has a club – in total there are 3700 clubs in Ireland. Becoming a coach has fostered a growing interest in High Performance, Self-development, and understanding team and individual psychology and dynamics. The lockdown period has given me a huge opportunity to further invest in this area and I’ve spent a lot of time listening to podcasts and reading in this area.
I am now at paulpmeehan.ie instead of .com so stay tuned for further posts. I will primarily focus on Hitachi technology, Automation, VCDX (including mentoring tips), High Performance and VMware technology and learning.
Onwards and Upwards !
